TV Screens Policy

Last Updated: January 1, 2024

For television screens / monitors in public areas managed by the DeGroote Digital Marketing Team. These screens are part of a network of strategic communication tools. They’re used for informing the McMaster and DeGroote communities about what’s happening at the school, displaying emergency information, and communicating about strategic priorities.

Content

The screens run continuous slideshows. Each slide delivers a message, usually in the form of an image with overlain text.

Topics

Slide topics should be of interest or helpful to members of the DeGroote community in the building. Some slides may also provide information for other visitors to the building (such as welcome messages for an event). Some broad topics which are allowed are:

  • DeGroote Community News
  • DeGroote Student (Bulletin) News
  • Building and Public Service Announcements

Whether or not a slide will be posted is at the discretion of the Director of Marketing and Communications, or their delegate on the Digital Marketing Team. All messages must meet the standards in McMaster’s Community Guidelines.

Format

Generally, messages should be contained in a single slide.

  • Slides can be submitted as a JPG, GIF, PNG, or PPTX file.
  • Slide dimensions are 1920 px wide by 1080 px high, and must be a 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • Text may only cover up to 1/2 of the slide. Only include essential information. The fewer words, the better.

Examples of TV screen designs, which can be used as templates, can be found here. Please note, to view the below you must have a Canva account (free).
